With very, very few exceptions all buyers of books, CDs, DVDs, and records do the same thing: they sell them online, either on Duiscogs, Ebay, or Amazon
It's a good idea to sell a collection in bulk instead of individually online because of high sales commissions (~ 20%), tight shipping deadlines, demanding customers, high shipping costs, and the aggrevation of dealing with returns, complaints, and random account closures by Amazon and withheld funds by Paypal
Everybody is doing the same and reselling items in a perfectly transparent online market place
Costs of buying stuff from you decides how much the buyer can pay the seller
two guys driving an old cargo van from Princeton to the Upper West Side = $200 for labor, $40 for tolls, $20 for gas, $40 for parking. The buyer has to reduce his price by $300 to compensate for these costs
Shipping to North Carolina: $40 per book box
Manhattan store rent of $12,000/month: the record sellers somehow have to foot the bill
Cherrypicking is a must for buyers who pay a lot of rent in expensive locations and have high labors costs in NYC while they matter less for somebody in an old warehouse two hours outside of New York City
Greatest recycling program on earth
not dependent on the Chinese (cardboard, plastic bottles, copper, etc.)
everything fed back into reading or listening public
largest public lending library ever, administered through online marketplaces at no cost to the taxpayer

We have been buying CDs, DVDs and books for over ten years since 2004.
We have been reviewed countless times in the press and on blogs. Most of these journalists or bloggers were customers first who subsequently wrote about their experience of selling their items to us.
Half of our business are referrals. Many repeat sellers such as estate buyers, liquidators, music executives, storage auction buyers, and book industry people have been using our services for years. Please e-mail or call, describe your situation and we will connect you with a referral who has sold to us under similar circumstances.

Why should you trust us?
We do not buy less than 200 items. CDs, DVDs and books can be combined to reach the minimum quantity of 200 items.
If you live in the New York Metro area you can bring all your items to our warehouse in Long Island City at the entrance to the Midtown tunnel. Please see here for directions, hours, a map and photos of our building. We have two loading docks, i.e. you do not have to look for parking and you do not have to carry heavy boxes. In most cases you have your money within 15 to 30 minutes. Larger collections with over 1000 items might take 30 to 45 minutes.
If you have a large amount of books, CDs and DVDs we can arrange a house call. Please provide us with all relevant details here. We will come to your house, store or library, inspect your inventory, make you an offer and box everything up and take it away. No collection is too large: we have made house calls for 150,000 books. Only we have the men, the muscle, and the money to acquire large collections in bulk on relatively short notice.
For collections of more than 200 CDs and/or DVDs we offer a prepaid mail in by Fedex Ground or USPS Media Mail. You can provide us with some basic information here and we will e-mail you prepaid shipping labels. Upon receiving your collection, we will inspect and sort it and give you a detailed accounting of our findings and a price offer by e-mail, usually within 48 hours of receiving your packages. If you accept our offer we will pay you by Paypal or corporate check.

How do your items get from you to us?
When we inspect your inventory we screen out damaged or incomplete items such as incomplete CD boxsets, CDs without complete cover art, and books that are underlined, marked up or water damaged. These items have no monetary value.
Then we run your inventory through our proprietary algorithm and historical database. We check the current market price, how many sellers are trying to sell the item and how long it will take us to sell the item. A book with a market price of $89 might be a great book but if it sells once every six years we might prefer a current title that has a market value of $6 but will sell within three months. Learn more here.
Our algorithm looks at these three variables and then calculates the maximum price we can offer for your whole collection. We give you our best offer first, i.e. our offer is not negotiable but the maximum we can afford to pay.
If you accept our offer we pay you in cash or by check if we meet in person or by check or paypal if you have mailed your items to us.

What do we pay and how do we pay?
We live in the Amazon age, i.e. prices for many items have declined dramatically, sometimes into the pennies. A Britney Spears CD is often worth less than an empty jewel case without any music and cover art. That means that the value of your collection resides in a fairly small number of items.
If you allow anybody to cherry-pick your collection, almost all or all of the value will be gone and you will never find anybody who will offer you any money for the remaining part of your collection.
This is the reason why you should not allow anybody to pick out the most valuable items: you won't be able to sell the rest. You will end up with very little money and still sit on most of your inventory.
